I never have to touch the controls on the PX-330. I'm using the XW-P1 for drawbar organ and synth sounds.

Plus I get Roland Supernatural sounds, I especially love the Supernatural sax. I set these up in performance lists that are stored on a USB drive. The module allows me to punch in 4 parts on the fly and do splits and layering. The BK-7m is an arranger module but I never use those functions except when looking for ideas for composing. I got the module as payment for setting up a POS system in my friends store. My current rig is using a PX-330 with a Bk-7m module and an XW-P1 on top.

Maybe I just need to pray that Casio is listening to pro musicians and they issue a firmware upgrade in the near future.

#Mx8 midi patchbay manual how to

My original post was hoping to uncover somebody who knows how to hack the firmware with, perhaps, some easter egg commands to add these features. Part of my frustration with Casio is that they've done 9 out of 10 things right to have a killer, highly versatile keyboard that appeals to a wide range of musicians, and these little fixes I'm asking for can all be done in the firmware. I'm assuming that some Privia owners also want to be able to have the option jump around the beautiful Privia sounds, and layer with an outboard synth. I can drive the Ion with the Privia, or vice versa, or use either to play softsynths in Ableton (U-He ACE is my fav now). I also switch between my main keyboard and an Alesis Ion, which I just can't seem to give up because it's so performance friendly. Then I up the sounds with my KaossPad, or effects in Ableton (delay, looper, etc.). I really like being able to push a button and know for sure what sound I'm going to get-pad, strings, vibes, piano. I play live space music, which means I need the flexibility to changes sounds and effects on the fly. Logical question, for which I have a good answer. Why on earth would you want to change sounds ON your Privia when you have it hooked up on your computer already? But I can follow directions, if anybody knows the trick.įor the purposes of this thread, what other things would you like to do to increase the utility and versatility of what is otherwise a really fine instrument. It would also be nice to divorce the volume knob from the level sent to the line outputs, and have a way through the menus to set the level once and leave it (controlling volume, of course, in the mixer).Īnybody hacking the PX-330, or know how I can filter the MIDD CC# sends? I'm not a techie, exactly, so all those hex codes are a little overwhelming. Yeah, I know you can plug something into the headphone jack to turn them off, but the Privia alters and spreads out the sound it sends to the outputs (optimizing for headphone use). I also echo the frustration I see others are having with the lack of a simple switch for turning off the built-in speakers. The whole point of my setup design is to not rely 100% on the laptop. I know I can use MIDI Ox, or something like that, but would mean I have to route everything through my laptop. I writing now to ask if anybody has found a hack for turning off or filtering the MIDI send from the PX-330.

I sent an email to Casio tech support, but haven't heard back. I don't see any messages here in this Forum either.

I looked in the manual and in the special MIDI implementation manual (available from the Casio website) for a way to turn off the sending of MIDI CC messages to external devices, but I don't see anything.

I'm very happy with it, but frustrated that every time I change a tone, it screws up the patch settings of any module I'm controlling with it. The light weight was definitely a factor too, so I can take it places without breaking my back. I bought the Privia because I need 88 keys, it has good action, and a few good sounds I can rely on to be there at the punch of a button (as opposed to the complexity of a module like the Motif ES rack, or Ableton). I've tried other controllers and stage pianos over the years, including M-Audios, Kurzweils and the Yamaha pf65 (long time ago). I just bought one to use mostly as a controller of other sound modules and Ableton Live. Is anybody else using the Privia PX-330 as a MIDI controller and has anybody found a way to stop tone changes from sending strange control messages to other keyboards and modules?
